I purchased this printer as an open-box/display model item from a major electronics retailer. I managed to get them to throw in the extended warranty with the printer + new toner for a grand total of $90 (What a deal!) I got the unit home, plugged it in and connected it to the PC. It took me less than 5 minutes to locate, download and install the driver and I was printing away! What an impressive little unit! Its small enough to fit on the lower shelf of my printer cart (the top of the cart is occupied by an color ink-jet all-in-one) and in economy mode makes excellent, sharp prints at fantastic speeds. I am thrilled with this printer for its price, quality and ease of use. As as researcher/student I often need to print 20+ page journal articles. In the past I used to spend hours in front of my screen taking notes because printing them wasn't economical enough at all on my ink-jet. Now, I can print 20+ pages at a clip and it costs me just ~2 pennies a page! Highly recommended!Customer Review: Good for the task bought for

I purchased this printer to replace a DeskJet in a dedicated application. The DeskJet was just too slow. I needed a small, low-power printer. This one fit the bill. Startup time is very quick. Printing speed is good and print quality (text only) is excellent.

A quick little printer and a great value for the money. I did not do my homework and evidentally it is not networkable. If you want to make it a network printer with a print server, you must purchase the slightly more expensive 1022 model. Customer Review: Very Pleased!

This is my 3rd HP printer. Each one has been better than the last. They are all still working and the toner cartridges last forever (at least they just seem to). I would never consider buying any other brand of printer again, ever!Customer Review: good printer, but beware of 64-bit support

I actually purchased this printer some time ago and it's been a good little workhorse. Quick, quiet and my only complaint (until today) is compared to other printers I've owned, it seems to cost a little more to run, even with 3rd party cartridges.
However, I recently built a new PC and I'm using Windows XP Professional 64-bit version. I really didn't even think about the printer not working with XP 64-bit as it's been around for awhile. Even though the OS recognized it as new hardware, a driver could not be located for it. I went to HP's site and the only option was to purchase the driver on a CD and wait for the US mail to deliver it (or pay a lot for expedited delivery). I've never had to pay for a driver before. You just sort of expect to download it from the vendor website. But for whatever reason, some bonehead(s) at HP decided they should try to get some of the driver development costs back by charging the customers. So I coughed up the money but now I have to wait - why not at least let the customer download the driver after paying the $10+ for it. I'm getting penalized twice. Once monetarily and twice in having to wait for it by mail.
That's just plain awful customer support. So maybe I'll have to go with another printer manufacturer next time. HP - that's penny-wise, pound foolish behavior. And when you think about it, those of us that buy 64-bit operating systems probably buy and recommend lots of other equipment, printers included. Very stupid HP!
