Customer Review: Terrible Product, Worse Support

This product could not be more useless. I was only ever able to get it to work in Vista with HP Mediasmart Software that I could not download from HP. I was able to see HD channels, as well as analog then, but could not schedule recordings, and was unable to make it record manually either. Forget the remote control it comes with, it wouldn't work.
After installing windows 7 at a later date, I decided to give it another go. First problem: no drivers listed for my HP computer for the device. HP discovered that fact about 10 minutes into a phone call, and then told me I had to reinstall windows vista. Humorous thought, but not happening. After the woman tried to tell me I was out of warranty for my computer and thus could not receive free tech support on the TV tuner (bought not too long ago), I hung up the phone and went on with my own troubleshooting.
I downloaded the generic windows 7 drivers from HP, and gave it a shot with windows media center. Found the TV tuner, sees the analog stations, but gives a low bit rate error for analog, and no signal found on digital stations. I have confirmed the digital stations are there at full strength, the tuner does not find them. My school uses a special campus comcast, that sends out all the OTA channels at extremely high quality unencrypted, and it was able to find them before, with nothing changing since the previous trial.
After some lucky researching, I discovered what might have been good. These HP brand tuners are really manufactured by Hauppage, and apparently are a different color plastic put over a Hauppage WinTV-HVR-950q. In fact, while windows 7 lists it as an HP analog/digital TV tuner, it will automatically download the Hauppage compatibility drivers through windows update. Unfortunately, it still won't work, and I'm afraid all the attempts to fins the correct drivers for the product have left so many remnants on my computer that unless I reinstall windows, I may never get it working properly.
This product is not worth the price, nor the effort to use. Buy a TV tuner branded by a company who cares about integrity and customer support more than "you changed this, you aren't covered under warranty."
